You are the kind of person who likes to be occupied at work but there is nothing substantial that requires your time and energy. I wonder how such people manage to spend minimum working hours in their offices. If the readers have any innovative ideas to fill up the idle office time, they are requested to post the same in their comments, because here is a person who is damn bored just because there is not enough work to keep him busy in his office hours. Seriously, it sucks big time when you just have to sit through the office hours without any work!! Or when you are so efficient that you always have plenty of free time very much during your office hours.. i think later is the case with me.. Anyways, are there any alternate money making opportunities that can be picked up leveraging the free time that you get in office? As i write this post, the clock has stuck 5.15PM and i decide to leave for the day..yes, probably two hours before my old colleagues here do...but i finished all the work allotted to me and i ran out of all options to pass free time in the office...

the thinker and the achiever

thinker :

always meditating,

serious,

now or later? Mr. Reddy's leadership is unquestionable and there was no one who could turn his/her back against him. With an iron fist, he has confined the rebels and separatists to their righteous turfs and ensured that the normal day to day life activities of the people of the state remain unperturbed. But the unfortunate turn of events lead to one failure after the other and now both the city and the state fail to pose a strong leader. Now my beloved city's image is being battered to death due to lack of vision and the political turmoil the region of Telangana is going through.

Road blockades, protests, violence, disruption have been rampant in the name of Telangana agitation severely denting the image of Hyderabad in the eyes of corporate and foreign investors.
State government officials are involved in complete pen down, new projects are being indefinitely postponed, work in progress became nothing in progress and the existing infrastructure is in desperate need of repair and maintenance.

Both the fixed and floating populations of the city are facing the ill consequences of the recklessness and insincerity on part of the elected representatives. People are frustrated and are seeking change..a change that can take this city out of the shambles that it is in to its past glory, a change that will portray Hyderabad once again as the most lovable city, a change that will make each and every resident of it say proudly that he/she is a Hyderabadi..

Hoping for such change to happen and happen as soon as it can!!!!

Godspeed...

Hyderabad meri jaan!! v1.0

The best part about being in Hyderabad is the warmth of this city. People here are very nice and helpful. In their own Hurdu slang, they amuse you with their easy going attitude towards life. It definitely has a mix of old and new traditions and has a place for everyone.

Whether it is the cantonment area with jawans and officers from all over the country, or the marwadis in the abids and kachegudas of the city, or the guzzus in begum bazaaar markets or the tamils in the padmaraonagar n secunderabad areas, it has people representing every corner of this country in good proportions. They have found a place in the city, embraced its culture, evolved with it and now proudly call themselves Hyderabadis. Hyderabad aka Bhagyanagaram has attained this cosmopolitan image much before than everyone outside thought it has. It has been a multicultural city right from late 80s with scores of National level research institutes, DRDO and its labs and ofcourse defence establishments.

However, it was only during Mr.Naidus regime, this city has attained its long due share of limelight. Ofcourse, it needed a totally different identity this time, the 'IT Hub' with govt. encouraging billion dollar IT investments. The growth has been steep in the late 90s and early part of the last decade with the boundaries of the city growing much faster than expected. There were around 500 odd IT companies setup creating around 1lakh jobs inviting the techies from various parts of the country.

Madhapur, Kondapur, Banjara and Jubilee hills and the KPHBs have now become the hip and happening areas. Younger crouds with healthy disposal incomes and ubercool attitudes have started a new episode in the history of this city. Pubs and discs have mushroomed with people thronging them on weekends partying till the whee hours of the night, the night life has finally set in!!

Those long drives to the new airport, street races around the KBR park, mid nite biryani, late night haleem and irani chai and early morning Kheema Dosas have made indelible entries to the organizers of city's gen X and gen Y. Parents also started to accept their kids new found way of living in the Bob Dylan's 'Times are Changing' style..They found new avenues to have fun with the shopping malls, multiplexes, fitness centres and ofcourse the not to be forgotten neighbourhood parks. Yoga and workouts have become their daily routine and fitness has become a new mantra!!

It just took a decade and the city has changed completely, and for better we hope!!

What it takes to be a (good) trader!! - part 2

If you thought 'trading' is just 'buy and sell' in any order as long as it is profitable, you have hit the bulls eye. Yes, it is simply that. But to identify when to buy and when to sell is what that puts an amateur's mind in the fix.

Talking about trading, it is first of all not a zero sum game, it is a negative sum game because you end up paying commissions to the exchange no matter whether you make money or loose money. It is an entirely competitive space where thousands of competent people are vying for the fixed amount of capital that exchanges hands. What makes it complex is the psychology. Yes, if thousands of people without any individual information advantage and almost similar levels of knowledge about the products are the players, it is the psychology that matters!!!

Trading is a totally different ball game. If constant buying can take the price of the product higher, the resultant profit booking can bring the price of the very product lower. A good trader is not happy unless he buys his contract at the least possible price and sells the same at the best possible price in a limited period of time. It is this competition among such good traders that nudges the rookies and forces them to leave..

So it is very important to differentiate 'profit-booking' from 'selling', 'buying' from 'profit-booking(short-selling)'. This is more crucial in intra-day trading because the prices fluctuate so many times within a range that it becomes very tough to figure out when the range is going to break out!!

Put simply,

1. You need patience to wait till your target price is achieved

2. You need to be greedy and again not so greedy to book your profit at the right time and exit

     from the market.

3. Be adept at establishing the probability of a particular move to decide the capital you are

going to use in capturing the move (remember, if you know that a 10% increase is 100%

likely, you make 100 rupees by investing 1000 and 10000 rupees by investing 10000)

4. When to enter the market and when not to enter the market.

5. How much of the profit to re-invest and how much to add to your reserves.

Whatever said and done, everything is said easier than done!!! The above list will reach 50 in number when you actually make your hands dirty...

What it takes to be a trader!!

Last nine months as an employee of a UK based trading firm, sitting in South India and trading on the Wall Street and European commodity exchanges have been life changing for me. For the very first time in my life, i was spending full time, professionally, trying to learn an 'art' that promises more money and adrenaline rush than any other employed position in the world. Trading is not a child's play but is an 'art' that can only be conquered by becoming a master of it.

For the very first time, I was thrown out of my comfort zone which always revolved around reasoning, analysis, computation and communication. Here was a world which enthralled me with the sheer amounts of money that was being juggled in and out. The volumes that are traded and the values they mount up to are astonishing.

If IQ is what is required to comprehend the movement and to predict the next move, it is tonnes of EQ that is required to make money even out of those successful predictions. Intra day trading is beyond doubt more of an Art than science. If playing with numbers is your forte, your attitude is risk loving, money motivates you and if you are not too much of a social person then trading is the right place for you.

to be continued...

Why, for whom and for what?

I just finished reading "Johnny gone down" by Karan Bajaj. It helped me clarify some confusion i have been in recently. The book offers good food for thought. Though written dramatically in a very typical style, some phases the protagonist goes through in the novel are situations which many of us would find ourselves in.

The book talks about Buddhist teachings like 'how you should detach yourself from the results and keep doing your work', 'how nothing in this world is permanent' , 'how meditation will help you realize the ultimate satisfaction/happiness' - questions that bother us many times while we are struggling to stay afloat and swim in gelid ocean waters which is our world. Here is an MIT grad who always takes the less traveled road knowingly or unknowingly, landing himself in trouble to the extent of losing everything that he is got. Strange and believe me not unreal (bad things always happen to a common set of people!!) that he is never safe and settled till the end with all difficulties hitting him through out the better and younger part of his life.

Off-late, I often think of living the life of a hippie, traveling round the world, no attachments, no commitments, no competition, no faking someone else's life, no fear, no pressure but only enjoying the beautiful things in this nature. What is it that one craves for in life? Success will demand more success from you, money will make you run behind it even faster and crazier, the people who love you will only make you cry when you depart with them, so how wise is it to yearn for all these which you know are not permanent?

The book explains how badly you want them when you don't have them; especially when you had thrown them away (everything that you had) when your life is ripe, in a quick spur of a moment wrong decision, which either appeared fancy or brave at that point of time.

back(this time,the smaller 'k') with a bang!!

Never thought that personal stuff would keep me so occupied and far away from social blogging..perhaps, that's what, life in an IIM takes. It severs the relationship (the usuall wake up and good night calls) between a couple, will teach you to sleep at all odd hours, will make you call your parents only after 10 in the night and many more..but it's all worth it, isn't it. Atleast the academicians and the world around is convinced that the millionaires who are going to be churned out, deserve all of that. I agree neither with the premise nor the reason. Yes, all IIM passouts are no millionaires and also not every minute that you spend cracking those enormous cases is really worthwhile.

However, they(IIMs) teach time management, confidence, business acumen and working in pressure cooker situations, which are mandatory skills for top notch positions in the corporate.

I thoroughly enjoyed and loved the two years spent at Kozhikode. Though I couldn't still discover what I really want to do in life, it atleast ruled out some options. While it is true that it ruled out few, there are numerous more that suddenly opened up at the same time and I am back to the square one, yes, still confused.

All the while, I used to appease myself reminiscing that 'Steve Jobs graduation speech at Stanford'..be patient and wait till you know what you really are made for; It works no more as this time it is post graduation..yeah you battled it out and neared your quarter century and you still don't know if you should play defence or go thrashing for the rest of your run..you are still settling!! :(

And to make things worse, new problems arose, thanks to the place I am sitting and typing this post(the 50 star country)..I don't even know where to spend the rest of my life. I was happy till now reading the 'feel good' success stories about India, its growth and how it is gonna be the focus of all big businesses in the coming decades. While the success and efforts of few hardworking and smart Indians(mind you, I am talking about the population ;)) have brought India in to the limelight (It didn't become the market with double digit growth potential overnight you see), our policy makers are still not able to create a safe and conducive environment for the future generations of it(India).

I received an e-mail asking me to sign an online petition protesting a bill that is gonna be introduced soon. Reading many such e-mails, I digged in deep to find out what all this clamor is about and trust me, it is ALARMING.

I am talking about the "Civil Liability for Nuclear damage bill" which will allow US companies to retreat scot free even after causing nuclear damage in India. Yes, this bill limits the liability of US companies towards the nuclear damages that their plants can cause in India and Indian government is going to pay for the liabilities incurred upon such accidents. In a very simple language, Indian tax payers will be bearing lions share of the recovery and rehabilitation costs incurred incase of a nuclear disaster while American companies will be let off legally and financially.

You can get a detailed account of this hazardous bill at the links below

http://www.groundreport.com/Business/Wakeup-to-Civil-Liability-for-Nuclear-Damage-Bill/2919665

Yes, It is true that energy security is priority for a growing country like ours, but not at cost of peoples lives and health. Such a bill(if it becomes act) will fail to caution sufficiently, the private companies that setup and provide nuclear equipment in India, about the potential danger of the stuff they are dealing with. It will only give some unscrupulous officers, if any, and their bosses, a leeway to not function to their moral and integral bests.

If you feel that the equations and terms being agreed to by Indian government in this bill are not upto the safety standards a one billion population like ours, demands, then you can sign the below petition.

http://www.greenpeace.org/india/stop-the-vote

Need for better/quality technical education

Today there is need for high quality technical education in India than ever before. It is quite evident that there is big deficit in the talent pool and fast growing IT and manufacturing sectors are in dearth of well qualified professionals. Talking about qualification and our engineering, the latter has unfortunately got the image "passport for a quick job"...well it may indeed be as easy as it sounds, but the fact is its not just a quick job but also a cheap job...yup if you took your studies easily and made it into some software company X speaking all "blah blah blah" during the interview, it is most likely that the work they have chosen you for is something which people in abroad detest to do.....but we never realise that and sadly feel elated about how we fooled the interviewer(s) and how we managed to grab fat packages in the MNCs....the truth is we are being fooled...whatever we get paid is by no means comparable to what our counterpart in US would get....

Getting back to remark i made about the lack of qualified professionals, it may sound surprising, isnt it ??? We are producing more than 2-3 lakhs of engineers every year and they are qualified definitely with a BE/BTech or ME/MTech...still there is a shortage ?? Yes, there is shortage of employable engineers...Our engineering college standards have reached abyssmal levels, that even toppers passing out of those colleges remain unemployed..Even if they manage to get employed somehow (thanks to the placements concept, where the employer comes with an intention to pick you up, unlike in off-campus, where they would try to reject you), most of them are least interested in the jobs they are doing and dont have any respect for their work...It should be evident from the fact that almost 70% of the two and half lakh students who appear for CAT every year are engineers...the number is high not because students in India have management bent of mind or they are all most capable future enterpreuners...the reason for such a high number (trust me most of that 70%are people with work ex) is simply because, these engineers are frustrated to do the work they are doing, they just wanna get out of it and MBA provides an easy option to switch....No wonder with the kind of education our engineering colleges provide and the quality of work the infosyss and TCS's of India make them do, these candidates are left with no other option...

So the bottomline is there is an urgent need for quality education, well qualified professors, state of the art infrastructure and knowledge hungry students...which our neighbouring country and competitor China has recognised quite early and has been working on it meticulously.

Cricket, India and IPL

Well Cricket, i should say is one of the best things that happened to India because of the British rule. The game has continued to enjoy popularity among the masses as well as the classes and it still continues to grow. What is in this game that makes us follow it so avidly ? Why is watching Sachin Tendulkar play so captivating and by far the best source of entertainment ? Why do we feel low for rest of the day when India loses and what makes us talk about it for weeks when India wins the worldcup or even a one day series in Australia ? It is not an exaggeration to say that cricket is more than religion for most us and I am one among its followers.

I got to watch the IPL match ( T20 :crickets new born baby and truly a marketing genius) between Bangalores Royal Challengers and Hyderabad Deccan Chargers today in Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore. Watching T20 format of the game is more eye candy than watching any other format of the game, and a fully packed stadium today in Blr is the proof that this is gonna be the future of the game. People (including me and my friend) reached the premises two hours before to ensure that we get a better view of the fielders and field. There is no lack of patriotism towards their favourite teams with many sporting t-shirts of their favourite teams and getting their faces painted with emblems of their favourites. To entertain the crowd and cheer up the players, there were cheer leaders who are raking a moolah outta this new championship..Every IPL match is invariably preceded by a music/dance performance by some of the top notch Indian stars and singers. The tinsel town members and bollywood baazigars are not at all left out with few of them owning the teams, few endorsing and few being brand ambassadors....Can there be a better marketing than this ?

With millions of dollars being spent and with stars and pomp everywhere, IPL has not just got the fuel that is needed, but also the spark to ignite it...

Made it into Gods own IIM

Hey all,
I will be joining IIM Kozhikode soon to pursue two year post graduate program in management. I am so excited to study in such a picturesque campus along with some really talented folks. It took some amount of hard work on my side to make it into the IIMs. Especially when you are working in a product development company, it is always hard to take off some time for other activities as there is work at office more or less all the time. Mock CATs helped me to get a feel of how the real exam is going to be ; through mocks, one will also realise what his weak and strong areas are. My regular reading habbit and interest in current affairs had made the GD/PI part easier. Thanks to god that my efforts have been paid off...
but picture tho abhi baaki hi doston....coz life takes a new beginning@IIM

too much attachment with anything can cause too much pain/joy as well

Our life always seems to be fuelled by a goal, some desire and not to forget hope that we will accomplish them. In the process of working towards the goal, you gotta be very well determined. Quite often that determination can turn into an obsession. May be it is good to concentrate all your thoughts on one thing, but it shouldnt happen that 'that one thing becomes your life'. That is where you gotta strike balance. That is where you have to be wise and conscious in every minute you spend. You shouldnt let that desire to achieve your goal determine everything you do.
When your journey towards the goal has finished, and you were waiting for it to become reality, but suddenly someone(some external factors beyond your control) has blindfolded you and prevented you from seeing it....then,your whole life seems to have become standstill. Yes at that point of time there is nothing really happening, nothing seems to interest you, everything appears so boring, there is no motivation to do your daily chores. It is simply because you were so attached to that thing that helped you keep going...Is it impossible to come out of that situation, to resume your normal life ?? Well, wise people should be able to do that, because they constantly keep judjing what is good and what is wrong and always do the former. But for people who cant do that, it is advisable not to get too much attached to anything...You can still have a goal and do real hard work to achieve it, but your job should end there and the result for it is beyond your hands....the worst is you are not even sure if you would ever get the result.

Uffff..finally a long awaited break..an amazing long weekend...gallons of adrenaline rush..

What is it all about : Tired of slogging for MNCs, Frustrated with 'single' status, irked by the unavoidable noise and rush in the metros, game for any kind of adventure sports..four dudes set out to have the best of the time they got in their hands..a long weekend..21-23March,2008.

Whom are we talking about : Kishore, Prasanna, Sandheer and yours truly.

Where did these troubled souls seek refuge ? In the laps of holy mother Ganga, in the cradles of lower Himalayas called Shivaliks, away from the boisterous crowds and smothering project deadlines...

Didnt these guys get bored there ?? hahaha..you must be kidding...bored ?? there are many more challenges here..more interesting than what you find in the yellow cubicles..you are surrounded by hills you can climb, jungles you trek, cliffs you can jump off from, scenic locations for the photographer within you and rivers that you can raft along....few things are better experienced than talked about...n this belongs to that genre.

Hey were these folks gone nuts ?? they slept in jungles, bathed in cold waters and what not ??

relax grandpa..there are base camps every where starting from Rishikesh till Devprayag..They offer you tents with beds and beddings to sleep in, bathrooms to bathe in, delicious food that can make you a glutton, bonfire and music to keep you warm...n for the alcoholics and smokers out there..dont worry ..ther are no restrictions...just gotta carry the stuff yourselves..n u can have loads of them !!!

But..how did they book the accomodation and all ??

Dont you guys google?? Time has fled past at supersonic speeds, and here i lay wondering what the **** did i do this month. Why is it that we dicover only so late that we have been wasting time ? May be whatever you really do is done because you feel it is the call of the moment. Everything seems so important when you are actually doing them, but afterwards the same thing doesnt even seem to be worthy of making a note in your diary. So at the end of the day, there is never a satisfactory answer to the question "what did i today ? " . Well i find this intriguing may be because i am over- ambitious about things or i do not have better stuff to be thought about..

Now i have an even tougher question in my mind, what did i do in 2007 ? Well sometimes life seems to be so short that you want to strike something big in every episode of it, to say to yourself at the end "wow ! what a ride! ".... for me 2007 has been a very plain ride but for most of you around it might have been a roller-coaster one.

Well, while i try to come out of december blues and become ready to welcome 2008 with a bash, i wish you all a VERY HAPPY 2008 IN ADVANCE

Mindblowing innings by Yuvraj

Fifty runs of twelve balls, fastest fifty ever in international cricket. I went to Wayanad district in Kerala last week (30th June-1 July) along with friends from IISc. Its been long time i went for a trek/tour and i decided to give myself a break. We were 11 people in total , and we booked a tempo. The plan was to start from iisc on friday night around 11.30 pm. So i left at 8 from house, reached their by 9 ,had my dinner there..and spent some time around in the campus..

I carried along a racksack with 4 pairs of clothes and all basic amenities. We all assembled as planned on time near to the main building. We put all our luggage in the back, and soon settled ourselves as we started to reach the outskirts of Bangalore.

The route to Wayanad is via Mysore -Nanjangud – Gundlupet (Right turn) – Sulthan Bathery – Kalpetta – Vythiri . Vythri is town in wayanad district from where most of the tourist spots are nearby.

We bought all the snacks required along with a carton of water bottles. Soon we started singing songs from various languages, from 60s to 90s and the latest ones too..It was great fun singing out loud in whatever voice u have, not bothering about anything..

We decided we will detour at mysore to check out the bandipur sanctuary as well, though it is an overhead of about 50km, it is a worthy experience. It was about 4 in the morning when we reached bandipur, we tried to the best of abilities of eye to catch any animal...n efforts were awarded when we saw bisons, deers, antelopes ...no tigers thou.(they say its very unlikely to see them even in proper safari during the day)..

It was about 6.30 when we reached the RTO check post and we paid 700 bucks to allow our tempo into Kerala...n thus we entered Gods own country ..(there is a legend behind this..well but the beauty of the state is enough to silent any person who has any doubt).

The state is all plush with greenery, you see all kinds of plantations, ...banana, rubber, coconut, tea, coffee..n not to forget the spices.. There were two keralites sumesh n varun in the group who guided us and explained about the constructions, gardens and estates on the way... It being rainy season ..it was drizzling all the while..wayanad is famous for its incessant rainfall...i saw it an believe me it is only next to chirapunji...though ppl say it is not the correct to time to visit the place, getting drenched and to play in the pouring water is FUN.

Sumesh has a friend Nathal who is localite there-who boarded along with us at Wythri. He took us along to Tushara hotel, where our stay was booked. It was nice cute motel, 1000 bucks for 2 bed room...we checked in, got ourselves fresh. We went to a local small hotel to eat PUTTU as our breakfast. It was yummy and i had three of them with Kadal (the sambar sort of stuff made with chanas). Soon we started our trek.

We reached the base point of EDAKKAL caves . The caves are not very far from basepoint only 2Km altitude..n a decent trek... To reach the top of EDAKKAL hill is definitely a herculean task which we all have achieved with quite a lot of team work...

i like adventures n have done quite many treks, but this one is for sure the toughest of all, as there was no proper track, no slits or hooks to find a grip and above all, its raining n the rocks are god damn slippery..But we were a obstinate junta ourselves n none was had slightest doubt in our minds either about our abilities or the task ahead...It took us a long 1 hr to reach the top ..perhaps around 6000 feet..n we are on the top most point in the region...we could see kerala, karnataka n tamil nadu from the peak..

We stayed ther for sometime n soon started downhill...n this was more tough...just a sight of the valley down you will kill you for sure...we managed the same way very carefully every one helping the other..n slowly reached down...never felt that sense of achievement...n happiness had no bounds when we came down n have just taken a look back at what we just conquered...

we finished whatever snacks we carried n started off to see SUJIPARA waterfalls..we had lunch at 4.30 Pm near the falls..This place was again amazing..the waterfalls are too good n i have never seen water jetting with more force than that..may be because of the rains..soon it was dark n we sped fast to place where our tempo was parked..

soon we retired down to our rooms n had a nice dinner in motel itself..we had one more day ahead n it was not as tough as the first one..we decided to trek nearby hills..n then visit Banasura water dam in the evening.

We started off secondday at 9 AM..we had APPAM as breakfast today and then reached base of a hill..this being rainy season...they were leeches all around...n i alone had removed 5-6 from my shoes n body...u dont even know one is on top of you..though they wont harm you or so..but the idea of something sucking ur blood is scary...we trekkecd two hills n it was a tough task too as it was slippery everywhere n then we had to battle these leeches...as we finally got down covered completely in mud, wet in rain....it was great relief when it started to pour down cats n dogs....

as dat was the only we we could get ourselves clean...otherwise galloons of water was necessary to get rid of mud we had on us...we welcomed the rain n they we played in it on the road, n the way we played water on to the vehicles reminded of childhod days...

we came back to hotel to fresh up... n there was a big leech near my knee..it sucked waht all blood it can for easily n hour...n it was blown up to biggest of the sizes..it was big pain stoppin the blood..as the leech drills a hole,...it is not like any other injury u have..blood takes time to clot...thou it doesnt pain at all...

soon i dressed my wounds n started off to see the last place..ie the banasura dam..This is the largest earth dam in India..It is awesome place surrounded by hills and water that comes down from them...amazing plac e n the cool breeze was too good; we spent around 2 hrs there n started back to our hotel...on the way we purchased few handicrafts at the Pookot lake...

N we got back to hotel .packed our stuff n started by 8.15 back to blr..We dined at Jubilee hotel in sultan batera...it was nice food.. n after eatin in blr, the rates at restaurants in kerala seemed to be negligible...

we started back after dinner at around 11 to blr...reached iisc by 4.30./... it had been a fantastic trek all together n my first ever trip to Kerala...

link to the pics :http://picasaweb.google.com/sumeshnn/WayanadTrip?authkey=2wKfdS3-Oj0

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://bhargavatham.blogspot.com/2007/07/why-is-kerala-gods-own-country-go-to.html' title='Why is Kerala "Gods own country?" It is a smooth story of a father and his two young and sensible children. Atticus (the father) helps his candid children to lead a correct life of high values and great principles in those days (early 20th century), when the coloured people were ill treated and womens role was restricted to a wife or a mother.

Both the children look up to Atticus whenever they are in dilemma , and the way Atticus answers their questions is simply amazing and touches your heart...the gist of the story is as Atticus says

"shoot all the bluejays [they] want," they must remember that "it's a sin to kill a mockingbird". Ms Maudie Atkinson, the children's neighbor, later explains that it is a sin because mockingbirds do no harm. They only provide pleasure with their songs: "They don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us". The mockingbird is used as a recurring motif to symbolise innocence and victims of injustice throughout the novel.

It is a symbol of innocence and beauty against racism and hatred.

J'ai accompli mon cours français

Yahoo...I succesfully (hope so..marks are not out yet) my 1A course in French today.

It was a great experience. type='text'>attending the CONVOCATION

Finally, it struck to the BIT (the very college i studied in), administration that this year they have not organised convocation to award degrees to the 2006 passouts....so it took them good amount of time to plan the solemn event in a student life...to fix a date..the result they eventually convened it on 23rd may...wednesday...

For the students who have now started working,it was really tough to decide..the day being in the middle of the week...and Ranchi being as remote a place as it can be..But somehow, junta decide to meet their frenz...arey degree kisko chahiye yaar...

n they come up to spend n recollect their good old times...the most wonderful n happening four years of their life..yours truly too is such poor chap..who initailly thought its not worth spending 10000 bucks to get awarded officially with a BE...well its an year and i really forgot that i didnt get my original engg degree...

but then..one fine day it sudddenly struck how important the convocation is ,in anyones life...i spent four years --studyin (dats wat othrs think atleast) to earn somethin..n here comes the time when i m expected to receive it..n its really bad not to make a presence...

bang i decided n booked the tickets immediately..sent the filled form which is supposed to reach in a week by the first flight courier...managed to convince few of my other friends who were too in the same dillema as i was in...n finally there we are at BIT Mesra...which taught me how to LIVE LIFE...on 22nd May..

21st nite is when i met most of my frenz after an year gap---at the Kolkata railway station..no sooner memories started flashin in my mind...well the whole nite was not enuf to recollect the loads of masti we had...

well i spent those two days 22 nd n 23 rd in the best way i ever could..was in a state of bliss with the loved ones around...it was great to dressup overselves on the day in black coats...n hoods to receive the degree....

Felt really happy that i took right decision to be there on the day for which i spent most energetic years of my life...thanks to my bro n mom for encouragin me to go attend the convocation..
Learning FRENCH (Francais)

Bonjour frenz,

Recently i have started to learn french language, it is 2 hrs a day on all weekdays during mornings from 7 to 9. The course is provided by Aliance Francaise, in Bangalore. They have classes being taught at many places by experienced faculty...well enuf of branding...

What i realized offlate since i started working, is i am kinda losing my learning power and becoming reluctant to absorb anything new...Like learning some new subject has become quited difficult owing to many reasons from lack of available time to some sense of complacency with whatever petty knowledge i already posess...

I quickly decided to revive my learning process, and thought of learning a foriegn language...for it is going to be fresh, organised and back to school kinda of learning activity... I did not have any interest before for any specific foriegn language...and i just questioned myself if i took a right decision to learn some foriegn language...

Trust me friends, it is been 3 weeks now that i have joined, and i am enjoying it to the core. It is real fun and challenging to learn a language which you dont hear anyone talking around nor can you find any writings...
You feel some sense of achievement from time to time ,say when you learnt a new word, or found out how to say "I LOVE YOU" or when you find something which is the same or similar to the usage in your mother tongue... Very soon you want to prove your prowess and start looking for a listener...

the attempts you make to frame something meaningful and somehow they end up meaning the opposite, the efforts you put in to understand a line in the text by broogling (googling ur brain) for some matches in ur own vocabulary are all very interesting and will only enhance your thinking power and creativity.

Overall, it is very nice feeling , good break (if you realise u have become a workaholic n looking for sm change) nice exercise for the brain (which by nw must hv got used to the "ctrl+C and ctrl + V" techinque) and also you get to meet some new frenz who share similar interests...

au revoir

Heights of Indian Cricket .!!

funny stuff...got it as a forward....

What did the spectator miss when he went to the toilet?

The entire Indian Innings.

Where do Indian batsmen perform their best?

In Advertisements.

When would Agarkar have 100 runs against his name? Well the idea abt going to nandi hills started nagging me ever since i heard abt it from Phani..who said it can be a perfect place to go biking..and now that i have a cruiser bike ..i was justin waitin for the time to come..to watch beautiful sunrise n spend some quality time away from the crowded blr..
Then luckily for me, one of my good old college buddies,Tanima has come down too..to Blr for her project..we decided to go to Nandi hills..one sunday..n thats the begining ...

It was Feb 18th,2007.Sunday. I told Tani to get ready by 8.15 and i went to IIsc to pick her up..We had a backpack with water bottle, some eatsbles n ofcourse a cam to capture the nature.
It was 8.30 by the time we started at IISc.We took left from Mekhri circle to join the outer ring road which eventually is the hyd highway. The weather was perfect, some what cloudy but with breeze around. It infact drizzled for few miutes.Having started early in the morning we didnt find much traffic on the road, or may be due to the cloudy atmosphere, people didnt feel like coming out.In around twenty minutes we were at the outskirts of blr, crossed the Yelhanka airbase.

The Hyd highway is perfect to jet out.I was enjoying the ride driving around 80-100Kmph. Trust me guys there is some thrill n joy in overtaking every vehicle that you see around..some achievement which i am sure only bikers would feel.

We rocketed for around twenty minutes to enter into completely green and hilly neighbourhood, we could see all green fields and faraway hills.THey were appearing spectacular and thanks to Mr.Sun that he has not lost his cool yet.We were enjoying the surroundings, great pleasure you know like some wise man said "a thing of beauty is joy forever" ..i swear you should experience it to enjoy. I was no more racing but maintained a consistent speed of 60..just to get the feel of beautiful panorama..

WIthin an hour we are almost near Chikbalapur, we crossed a railway lane and i started looking out for some wayboard poining us to Nandi hills.I knew that i had to take a left turn some where around and was driving slowly looking for the pointer. Yes, we found the board, took the left turn to enter a straight, little bumpy road thru villages, and on the same road after 2km,we come across a market kind of thing and a junction.I stopped to find out which way to take now,and the warmhearted ppl volunteered themselves to tell us to take a left again for Nandi hills..and we happily followed their directions.

We started seeing the chain of hills to our right,it was so beautiful, there was some marathon takin place and we could see guys dressed in khaki running opposite to us.It is a straight road now till a junction where we have to take a right. There we find many shops and we halted to drink coconut water and bought some chips and biscuits.
From this point started the Ghat road,on to the top of the hill.we paused at some panorama points to take snaps and njoy the terrain. it is out of the world. We finally reached the top of the hill.Parked my bike, n started off on a small trek to reach a place they call as "TIPPUs FALL"
Folks, forgot to tell you,Nandi hills was summer resort of the Great Tippu Sultan, the legend syas that all those who committed severe crime were pushed down to death from that peak and hence the name TIPPus Fall. It was around 10:45 now, and we sat downon the rocks to chat abt our happy college days n then almost evrythin under the sun.
Slowly started again to visit the Nandeeswara temple-Lord SHiva mandir. After that we took a small round around the Garden. There is a bugalow called Nehru Nilaya, it seems the erst while rest house of Tippu has been repaired to make this.SOme SAARC summit took place in the same bungalow in 2004 and that when they gave it a renewed look. By now it was 12.30 and we thought of havin Lunch. Went to Karnataka state tourism restaurant. The food is good and decent price. I should say cheap when compared to blr prices.
The best part is the beautiful view of the valley we could have from the glass walled restaurant, It was amazing,we gave some work for the camera we carried. SOOn after lunch,we started back on our way. It was around 1.30 now, and we took few snaps on the DANGER point, confused what it is..well there is rock which stand apart near the TIPPus fall, on which was painted DANGER in red..may be because the rock might topple down any time.
Slowly we started moving down, and reached the place where i parked my Avenger.we started off around two pm..on the way back we took a shorter route..which somehow we missed out while coming. Actually while coming,on the highway,we missed the first left turn but took the second ( n the last one) which can take us to nandi hills.. Now we are again bak on the highway bak to blr..Both of us had some shopping to do n we drove down to MG road..IT was 3.30 When we reached central..
Thats how our fantastic BIKE RIDE to NANDI HILLS was done.

My COORG trek

Well,i should have written this long back, but was busy with work ,then was out of town..

I am gonna write here about my (well 2 months back) trek to COORG.It is kind of a travelogue or a trek report whatever name you give...
My interest for trekking and adventures is by the birth and in every droplet of my blood...n thanks to the Backpacking trekking club we have in our office that i can pursue my hobbies inspite of busy work schedule..
HERE it begins:
DESCRIPTION of the place: for those who dont know COORG
COORG is a beautiful district in southern karnataka, border of kerala, famous for the Picturesque hills of the western ghats..They are long and contiguous hills spread over a vast geographical area, interspersed with valleys and small tributaries. There are coffee and tea plantations ,u know the famous COORG coffee...
The architecture of the houses is like those in Kerala, good looking and big castles , in middle of estates...Many retired beaurocrats have constructed there houses there ...and are living a peaceful like far away from the pollution and city chaos.

Climate is pleasant and so are the people...warm hearted ..and quite helpful though not gregarious.
Our climbing started from a palace at the foot of the hill ranges. It belonged to the mysore king and he used to rest there in summers. It also used to be the seat of administration for people living in and around coorg.

We have taken few snaps near and inside the palace. And then started on embarking to top of the second highest hill in the state of Karnataka. The TADIYANDAMOL peak. We already were told the basic principle of trekking: Slow and steady ascent. Iniitally the enthusiasm to reach the top first and high energy levels will tempt us to hyperambulate on the terrain, but they wont last for more than few farlongs.

So medium pace with small breaks inbetween can only lead you till the finish.
So keeping those basics in mind,we slowly moved up and after we reached one fifth of the height,we were on almost a plateau with mild slopes .We halted for a while and took snaps of us and the surroundings for we were already at a decent height around 200 feet.
Then our trek leader asked those who were at the begining to get back and those in behind were asked to lead now. Then we trekked now for 2-3 kms more and passed thru water streams and light patches of jungle. We could see the leeches inbetween. The most gorgeous scene was that of the sun rays finding their way through the pathces of the forest and luminating certain parts of the water stream down hill.Who would miss a pic in that background??
After 3km stretch,we took a major halt again on plateau which contained rocks for us to sit down. Then few of us who had mp3 players in their mobiles started playing songs.Having heard splashing sounds of water..we went in the direction of sound to find a water stream flowing down hill through the forest. That water seemed to be the purest on the earth. We quickly filled all our bottles for we needed water badly for our yet to be finished lunch on the peak.
We again slowly started, and now began the steepest and would say the toughest part of the trek.As from that point, there was no indication of any used path/way and we had to literally climb small rocks assuming them as steps. After trekking on for a km,we refilled ourselves with instant energy chocolates and wafers.

The fundamental principle of trekking is DISCIPLINE and is to be followed in every step. We collected all plastic wrappers that were dropped down by those who trekked before us and we carried a bag to put all such non degradable waste.
Having reenergised ourselves,we started on the final stretch,as i already said the toughest..this time through a thick forest (around half Km upclimb) ...Jagadeesh who was leading the team till then got bitten by a leech and had to slow down...i continued my decent pace thru the forest and the steepest stretch to finish second to reach the hill....
waited for all others to come, then we digged in a stick and tied a TI flag to it mark the finish as another feather to the cap of TIs trekking saga.

After enjoying the beatiful view and takin hundreds of snaps..we slowly rested down to open lunch packets which everyone carried..The rule was that everyperson should taste what the second person has got and that was a proper culinary mix for a lunch.. After staying for around 90 min on the peak we started down climbing. This seemed to much tougher for there was a fear of sliding down and the inertia that pushes you when you take larger steps without proper resting for your feet....
Everyone trekked down fast to reach the stream again and get refreshed...
We slowly followed the same path again now with no break till we arrived at palace where we had snacks...Then we continued till the bootcamp....
We were quicker and there is still half an hr for the bus enroute madikeri to come.We played frisbee and finished what all grub we got and the bus comes. All of us couldnt find a seat to sit...but those who could had the best nap of the times for evry1 was dead tired... It took around 2 hrs of bus journey for us to reach madikeri....

We go to the famous Yatri nivas hotel near the bus stand to fresh ourselves and to have some breakfast. We then visit the famous Coorg shiva mandir famous for its medeival coorg style of construction...That was a beautiful temple with a pond infront of it...
After bhagavan darshan..all those who were still feeling hungry had quick buffet dinner at Yatri nivas and it was already 10Pm..the time for our bus to start...
We get into the bus,..play few games like antaakshari and no one knew the finish of the game cause every dozed off unknowingly...
By the time i wake up i hear bus horns and people brisking fast...yes i am in Majestic the BLR bus stand...every parted now to take rest the whole sunday..Thanks to the leaders for having planned the trek on a saturday leaving the whole of sunday to be best utilised....

in this matter,my fundae r weak too

Hey why is it like this???

I never thought work can influence me?? immaterialised..

But i came forward a long way now and i am a design engr now...no more a student meaning that i have some added responsibilities and now i am acountable to someone..well if u think i was accountable to someone (thinking who--my parents yaar) earlier too...that was not accountability but kindof fear..now ur boss (supervisor in my org) is in no way similar..in many ways demanding and ready to show u the door when u leave him dis-satisfied..

so i gotta be as careful n as regular as possible from now on as it has come upon type='text'>Nice Farewell

well, with college days coming to an end, it is farewell mood everywhere.
This week and the next, everyone's schedule is busy attending farewell of some or the other club.Yesterday we had a nice farewell given to us by our juniors from AP belonging to 2k3 and 2k4 batches. It was a nice party.Everyone enjoyed.
and two days before that we gave a treat to them for getting succesfully placed in good caompanies. That too was a cooo..l party and we kinda had a nice adventure. The intime to get into our college is 10:00 pm and that nite,by the time our party ended n we came back,it was already 11:30...we decided t take a backroute and started out on it..but unfortunately the very moment a patrolling jeep(it patrols evry 1 hr after 11to stop ny intruders) came and we all ran as fast as cheetas to hide ourselves under shadow of a tree in the far away fields. Then came 2 gaurds came on cycle, whistling n shouting 'come out!'.'come out!'... we knew tomorrow our names will be in the notice board on the suspended candidates list....but god knows ,why those gaurds never stopped at us....may be they thought we r some ghosts or may be some MCC terrorists..they peddled fast across us..
then in the drunken mood, evry one was giving his own ideas...some says 'wewill cross the river',another says' we will climb ovr the walls'..and i say 'take no risk,we will sleep here all the nite'....
but then came a call (as an inhaler for asthma patient)from our friends who managed to escape the patrolling car..that gaurds back at the main gate are lenient today and have kept the gate open ...and they r just noting our names and allow us in.
well me and 2 others were the first to dare that and soon others followed...was a kinda great adventure...
last days of college

With only 36 days left from today for me to complete my graduation and leave the college,it is a mix of feelings in mind..at one corner there is happiness that there won't be any classes, neither any exams nor any tension about marks..
but at the same time at the other corner, a fear that now u r accountable to someone outside,ur boss at office, now no longer one can get along with thing he wishes to do, u gotto attend ur office no matter what, u dont get as many holidays as u used to get in college,it is now tension from morning to evening..
but at the end of it,ther is happiness that u r earning and u stand on ur own feet, now u can spend like hell to ur whims and fancies,no one concerned about ur money,no need to sumit weekly or monthy financial reports to ur parents.
again new frenz, new place..oh god how is it going to be???
<img width='1' the book is Howard Roark.Well he is quite a weirdo but an accomplisher. What's wrong with him is he never change for some one(well some may say thats the plus point).i hav the same doubt??
How gud is to be arrogant to the clients who come upto u seeking your valuable ideas and inturn when u r gettin paid for that...?
He is an architect and if i remember correctly, these r his words:' i design buildings for clients to accept them but not approach clients to design buildings'.well in the end what helped him is just his talent i wud say.
But what if one
